Childhood Obesity is a growing concern in America. According to recent statistics from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2003-2004), 18.8% of children aged 6-11 years and 17.4% of 12-19 year olds are overweight. Risk factors include Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. According to the National Institute of Health, overweight adolescents have a 70% chance of becoming overweight or obese adults.
To address and help conquer this national health epidemic, fitness trainers Camille Reyes and Vahan Sahakian have created Active Youth, a fitness center specifically designed for youngsters aged 6-16. experts recommend at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity daily for most children and this amount can be achieved in the fun and exciting environment at Active Youth. Kids can choose from group classes, one-on-one training, and nutrition presentations as they learn the importance of incorporating healthy habits into their lifestyle.
Parents and children alike will enjoy Active Youth’s fun environment to put them on the path to total health and fitness. Children’s brains are constantly forming new connections between the billions of neurons, and they developed as a result of their experiences. That is why childhood is such a critical time to instill the good health habits that will last a lifetime. Active Youth is making this their goal.
